Kmart Australia is set to install HP Retail Publishing Solutions in 184 of its stores, along with an online photo service.

Kmart customers will be able to order and (at most stores) collect in one hour a range of photo prints and related products such as books, calendars and posters.

The Kmart Online Photo Centre will be powered by HP's Snapfish service. It will allow customers to upload photos and then order prints and gift items such as photo books, mugs, stubbie holders, and pet bowls.

Online orders can be collected from a convenient Kmart store or delivered.

"We have chosen the HP Photo Centre Solution because it allows Kmart to deliver a new level of customer experience and creative photo products in-store not offered today," said Adam Gradon, divisional merchandise manager, entertainment, Kmart.

"Not only will Kmart customers be able to choose from hundreds of products to help celebrate life's special occasions such as birthdays, weddings, and holidays, but our customers will also be able to create their photo products themselves for pickup within an hour," he added.

According to HP, the digital processing system will significantly reduce the carbon footprint of the silver halide systems currently in stores. It will also eliminate the use of chemicals as well as reducing the amount of water and labour required.

The in-store equipment will be remotely managed by HP.

The HP Photo Centre Solution is already used by the Camera House chain and a number of independent photographic retailers around Australia.
