Nokia boasts that its Ovi Mail email service has clocked up more than one million active accounts in six months.

Ovi Mail is aimed at users who want to use email but can only do so from their mobile phones. Whereas most email services require a PC for account setup, Ovi Mail users can do the whole thing from a handset - though web access is also provided.

Since Ovi Mail was designed to serve people in developing countries, it comes as no surprise that the top nations in terms of Ovi Mail subscribers are India, Indonesia, Mexico, Russia and South Africa.

The service supports Bahasa Indonesia, Bahasa Melayu, Bengali, French, German, Hindi, Italian, Latin America Spanish, Brazilian Portugese, Portugese Portugese, Spanish, Tagalog, British English, American English and Vietnamese, and there's also on-device support for Arabic, Finnish, Russian, Simplified Chinese, and Thai.

Ovi Mail is available in 180 countries, and works with various Nokia handsets including the 2330 classic, 2630, and 5310 XpressMusic.
