The software includes many of Navigon’s navigation functions such as Reality View Pro, Lane Assistant Pro, Speed Assistant and Day & Night Mode. It also features Navigon’s map views including branded POIs along the route. “By making the MobileNavigator for the iPhone available for users in Australia, we are further expanding our global presence in the field of navigation for mobile phones,” said Gerhard Mayr, Vice President World-Wide Mobile Phones & New Markets. “The combination of Navigon’s signature navigation features with typical functions from the iPhone creates an integrated and unique experience.” The map display, for example, switches automatically from portrait to landscape view as soon as the iPhone is turned 90 degrees. There is also the option of navigating directly to an address from saved contacts. Furthermore, the multi touch function of the iPhone is integrated into this app and allows users to easily zoom in and out the map view with two fingers. Navigon will add more features with software updates later this year. After downloading the application, the software and map data from Navteq is saved directly on the device. This means that users don’t have to pay subscription fees or to download maps during the navigation. The Navigon solution for Australia sells for AU$99.99, but will be available for a promotional price of AU$69.99 until August 15. The iPhone application launch follows Navigon’s recent launch of a new portable navigation device (PND) range in Australia – now available in all Harvey Norman stores. No-one can deny that $69.99 is a pretty decent price for a piece of fully fledged GPS software, however anyone interested should also be wary of market leader TomTom's offering, which is coming soon. |
