The Rudd Government has announced five new directors to the NBN Company board of directors, including Doug Campbell, the former Telstra Country Wide chief who was recently appointed to chair the Tasmania NBN Company.

The joint announcement by Communications Minister Stephen Conroy and Finance Minister Lindsay Tanner included the appointment of Peter Hay, the former CEO of legal giant Freehills; former McKinsey partner and Productivity Commissioner Siobhan McKenna; Westpac’s former Business & Technology Solutions chief Diane Smith-Gander; and Wesfarmers’ finance director Gene Tilbrook.

The five new directors will join executive chairman and CEO Mike Quigley on the NBN Company’s board. Separately, Senator Conroy appointed McKinsey-KPMG as lead advisers for the NBN’s crucial implementation study.

“These appointments move us to an important next stage in the implementation of this historic nation-building infrastructure project,” Senator Conroy said.

“Mr Quigley and the five new directors bring a strong set of skills necessary for a task of this scale and importance.”

The incoming directors will replace the five interim directors – mainly public servants - who served on the board as the recruitment of directors took place.

“The NBN Co Board will help drive the rollout of the National Broadband Network and guide the development of company operations,” Mr Tanner said.

“These Board appointees are expertly qualified and experienced to establish this important component of our future economic infrastructure.”
