There are at least four bundles of Mac software on offer at present, promising varied collections of applications and utilities from small developers at bargain prices. [Updated to include Mac Bundle Box.]Featured Whitepaper
5 Best Practices for Smartphone Support
The idea is to provide developers with a promotional opportunity, give users a chance to legitimately acquire software that they otherwise might not have purchased, and presumably to make money in the process. UK-based The Mac Sale offers $US450 value for $US49.95. The 10 applications in the bundle are Flux (CSS web design), HoudahSpot (desktop search), Interarchy (file transfer including FTP and other protocols), Iris (photo editing), MarinerCalc (spreadsheet), RealBasic Personal (software development), Scribbles (drawing), Stuf (clipboard manager), TaskPaper (to do lists), and WriteRoom (word processing for writers). Several of these applications normally sell for more than the entire bundle, so it appears to be a particularly good deal. But there's no indication whether or not the software comes with upgrade and support rights (something that was significantly missing from certain earlier bundles from other promoters), so it's hard to determine the true value. The Mac Sale offer runs until August 18. We've mentioned TheMacBundles before. This is the operation that was set up to provide buyers and sellers with a good deal (high quality software, full upgrade and support rights, and a modest handling fee for developers). What's in the latest TheMacBundles bundle? Find out on page 2. |
