Australian buyers looking for a 3G Wi-Fi router now have a wider selection to choose between with the arrival of AXIM Communications' (AXIMCom's) range.Featured Whitepaper

HSPA+ is already offered by Telstra, and delivers a nominal maximum bandwidth of 21Mbps (actual speeds vary, and are usually considerably less). PC Range has also tested the products' operation on the Optus, Vodafone and 3 networks. Three models are initially offered, with more expected before the year is out. The $A229 MR-105N is the baseline version. An extra $A10 buys the PGP-108N, which adds a P2P and download client for file transfers to and from an attached USB storage device without requiring an active PC. It also includes AXIMCom's Intelligent Bandwidth Management (for stability and efficiency), TurboNAT (for faster NAT throughput) and Session Manager (for stability) features, along with the MRTG network monitoring tool. Then there's the $A259 MR-108N, which is said to provide the benefits of the MR-105M as well as the Intelligent Bandwidth Management, TurboNAT, Session Manager and MRTG features from the PGP-108N. It also supports at least 15,000 sessions (compared with 7500 on the PGP-108N) for greater stability. "We see this as a booming part of the market as ISPs increasingly offer 3G data-only services," said PC Range managing director Raaj Menon. "The key to success will be reliability. Flaky access and crashing routers won't cut it. We've put the AXIMCom routers through extensive tests in Australia, accessing a range of service providers, and we're very impressed with the results," he added. Netcomm has released some 3G Wi-Fi routers [1, 2] in recent months. |
