According to OGS CEO Larry Bloch, the acquisition means the company now has 23 percent of .au domains under management, propelling it into the number one position ahead of Melbourne IT. Bloch also has his eyes on the top spot in the web hosting market: "If you have thousands of domain and hosting customers, I would like to hear from you," he said. MD Web Hosting currently charges $A34.95 for .com.au domains, compared with $A44.95 at Netregistry, $A55 at PlanetDomain (it looks like OGS is aiming to cover a variety of price points) and a whopping $A150 at Melbourne IT. "We're seeing a strong drift of customers from competitors who overcharge and under deliver, further validating our business model," said Bloch. As for the MD operation, "current plans are for 'business as usual'," he said. "All staff will be continuing as normal, but we will be bringing MD's off-shore outsourced IT and customer support services back to Australia. These services will be provided by our in-house award winning, Sydney-based IT and Customer Service operation. Once complete, customers will only ever deal with Australian based operators." |
