Logitech widens webcam range E-mail

Logitech has announced a range of new webcams covering various price points.

Although webcams are becoming increasingly common as standard equipment on notebooks and even some desktop monitors, there's still a market for add-on devices. And Logitech seems determined to fill every niche.

The new range, which will hit the shops next month, ranges from $A59.95 to $A129.95.

The specs of the $A59.95 C200 and $A79.95 C250 are pretty similar - a VGA sensor and 1.3 MP snaps. The main difference seems to be that the C250 comes with extra video effects software.

Moving up to the $A89.95 C300 adds the ability to take software-enhanced 5 MP photos. Although the announcement is far from clear on the point, this presumably comes from the use of the same 1.3 MP sensor found in the $A99.95 C500.

So what else does the C500 deliver? The main point of difference seems to be the incorporation of Logitech's RightLight technology to cater for a range of lighting conditions.

Rounding out the new range is the C600. $A129.95 buys a webcam capable of HD (720p) video capture and software-enhanced 8 MP snaps. The C600 also includes the glass lens, RightLight technology, and the other features found in its cheaper siblings.

All models include a universal clip and LogiTech's RightSound technology to suppress background noise without requiring a headset, and can be used with the company's Vid videoconferencing application (available for Windows and Mac OS X, although hardly any of the company's cameras are Mac compatible), as well as other software such as Skype and Windows Live Messenger.
