Vodafone is sending out mixed messages about the futuroe of the 3 brand in Australia following the formation of its VHA joint venture with Hutchison Australia.

In June, Vodafone announced that the merger would proceed following receipt of clearance from the ACCC. It said then that "VHA will continue to market products and services under the Vodafone and 3 brands and all respective network arrangements, caps and plans, retail outlets and customer service capabilities will remain unchanged for the foreseeable future."

Announcing its Q1 results today Vodafone indicated that the end is in sight for the 3 brand, saying "[VHA]...in due course, will market its products and services solely under the Vodafone brand."

For the first time, because of the merger of its Australian operations with those of Hutchison, Vodafone gave no financial information on its Australian operation, saying that the combined business was being proportionately consolidated as a joint venture.
