Expect a new wave of Nintendo dominance as even on a cold, wet, winters eve the crowds flocked to the Wii Sports Resort opening.   In related news, 100,000 Australians have made a DSi hand-held their own.

Independent market research group GfK Retail and Technology has been the catalyst for further champagne cork popping at Nintendo Australia.

In only 14 weeks the latest iteration of mega selling hand-held, the Nintendo DSi has sold through more than 100,000 units.

All this whilst the predecessor Nintendo DS Lite remains on sale at an AU$100 cheaper price point to the DSi.

It seems the combination of faster processor, larger memory capacity and screen size, two cameras, slimmer form factor, MP3 playback and DSi Shop with over 25 downloadable titles is enough to convince thousands of Aussies to part with the extra green currency note.

Another fine example of Nintendo’s continued popularity crest was evident last night at the launch of Wii Sports: Resort, the sequel to the world’s largest selling game.

In very non-resort weather, local Melbourne CBD based EB Games played host to a specially launch event for the game.

Housing the Nintendo Experience , the CBD location was the natural place to have those looking for a virtual holiday to congregate.  Huddling in the weather, some Nintendo devotees were rewarded for their dedication with a prize Wii and copy of Wii Sports: Resort.
