NEC Australia’s product manager applications and content, Davide Iacovitti, said today the vendor’s SaaS offering, Applications Net, was developed in Australia at its Melbourne R&D facility, and businesses using the service were able to pick and choose from a portfolio of applications with “fully integrated telephony and unified communications click-to-call functionality across each. “It provides third party and NEC-developed software and telephony services via a single portal to meet all the IT needs of small and mid-sized businesses.” According to Iacovitti, leading global carriers were currently driving the expansion of new service businesses through data centres that provided a wide range of corporate and private services while transitioning into IP and broadband connectivity. Iacovitti said NEC contributed to the development of these cloud computing services with its “long-standing record of worldwide service installation for leading telecom operators and its experience integrating IT and network technologies, including construction of data centres and service platforms.” Under the agreement with Telefonica, NEC will construct and provide the infrastructure platform for a range of application software targeting businesses and homes via SaaS platforms.
