It is said to be the first 15,000 rpm drive with a capacity of 600G, as well as providing record reliability with a 1.6 million hour MTBF. Cheetah 15K.7 drives are available in 300, 450 and 600G versions, with 4Gbps Fibre Channel or 6Gbps SAS 2.0 interfaces. Drive-based encryption is available as an option. Other features include PowerTrim technology. Used on previous Seagate enterprise-class drives, PowerTrim is said to dynamically optimise power consumption without affecting performance. According to Seagate officials, the Cheetah 15K.7 simultaneously reduces the storage cost per gigabyte and the capacity per watt. Power consumption at idle is up to 21 percent better than the previous generation drives. |
