Secure electronic transaction solutions provider Keycorp Limited (ASX:KYC) has launched what is claimed to be the world’s first printer communications module that allows merchants to make secure EFTPOS transactions over the internet via broadband networks.

The newest version of Keycorp’s K76 printer communications module can be combined with the Keycorp K23 Intelligent PIN Pad to create a complete stand-alone payment solution that does not require a dial-up EFTPOS connection.

According to Keycorp, its new module can connect to the internet via ADSL, cable or wireless modems. Alternatively, it can use its 10/100 Base-T fast Ethernet interface to connect to the merchant’s Local Area Network (LAN). To protect the data transmission, Keycorp has equipped the K76 with Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) security.

“We believe this is the first IP and Ethernet-enabled printer communications module in the marketplace,” said Keycorp  marketing manager, Lindsay Johnson. “Keycorp made the deliberate decision to split the printer/communications module from the other functions of the EFTPOS terminal so that each component would be smaller and more versatile. By using the K76 in conjunction with our K23 terminal, merchants have a secure and powerful EFTPOS solution that is less bulky and more convenient for customers to use than all-in-one systems. The addition of IP and Ethernet connectivity makes it an even more compelling choice.”
