iPhone 3GS a winner for AT&T E-mail

The arrival of the iPhone 3GS led to multiple records for AT&T.

Launch day for the iPhone 3GS drove AT&T's best-ever sales day in retail stores.

That's just one of the records set at AT&T by the iPhone 3GS, according to a company internal memo leaked to MacDailyNews and other outlets.

The company also saw single-day records for the number of transactions processed by its IT systems, upgrade eligibility checks, orders on att.com, and features sales (service add-ons such as data access, insurance and parental controls).

Even though AT&T sold as many iPhones by noon as it did on the whole of the launch day for the iPhone 3G, June 19 saw only the second-highest traffic in the company's retail stores.

While AT&T hasn't disclosed the number of iPhone 3GS handsets it sold, Apple did announce that more than one million iPhone 3GSes were sold in the first three days. During that period the new iPhone was only available in the US, where AT&T is the sole carrier to offer the device.
