IT services group, CSC has appointed a 15-year industry veteran to lead its healthcare business in Australia as it pushes its services as part of the federal government’s e-health agenda.

CSC’s VP public sector, health and financial services, Matthew Day, today announced the appointment of Lisa Pettigrew to a newly created position of director of health services for its Australian operations.

Day said Pettigrew would spearhead CSC’s health strategy in Australia to increase the company’s footprint with new and existing clients, as the company “charges ahead with its focus on contributing and playing a strategic role in the Australian government's e-health agenda.”

CSC’s aim, according to Day, is to become “the leading health systems integrator and foundation IT services partner across the Australian e-health landscape.”

He said Pettigrew brings to CSC a “deep understanding of the Australian health system, its State and Federal government relations, policy and funding processes,” coupled with “knowledge of the health systems overseas, including North America, UK, Western Europe and Asia Pacific.”

Day says that, as part of the CSC team, Pettigrew will have immediate access to over 4,700 dedicated CSC health professionals around the world, and, he added, “she will be instrumental in bringing global best practices and e-health technology leadership to help shape health reform, the e-health agenda and an integrated enhancement of technology throughout all parts of the health system.”

According to Day, in the US, CSC supports three of the five National Health Information Network prototype projects to demonstrate the effective use of electronic health records (EHR), and in the UK, the company manages one of the largest programmes in the world at the UK National Health Service (NHS), supporting over 60% of the system.
