The Tax Office has extended its ICT services contract with EDS for two years beyond the end of June next year.

The ATO said today the original contract with EDS Australia for the supply of end-user computing and centralised computing services, which was due to expire at the end of June 2010, was to be extended to 30 June 2012.

The ATO’s Second Commissioner, David Butler, said today the value of the contract extension is $604 million, inclusive of the final year of the original contract.

Butler said the EDS extension would help the ATO manage transitional issues associated with engaging any providers who have been successful in the phased procurement program for ICT services, and would also ensure the ATO would be in a good position to realise the long-term benefits associated with its overall sourcing program.

“The extension will allow us to realise significant savings relating to our desktop computers and enable us to expand virtualisation of our existing data centre operations. This work will give us access to less costly and more adaptable technology.”
