Network infrastructure vendor, QLogic, has moved to strengthen its presence and competitive position in the Asia Pacific market, including Japan, with the appointment of a new head of its regional operation.

The company has appointed Martin Darling as Vice President for APJ. Previously with DataDirect Networks as general manager Asia Pacific, Darling will be responsible for expanding QLogic’s network business in the region, including pursuing new business in the 8Gb fibre channel, FCoE and Ethernet markets.

Darling will be based in Singapore, reporting to Scott Genereux, QLogic’s senior VP of worldwide sales and marketing, who said today the opportunities for growth and market expansion in the APJ region were significant, with the IT sector in the region growing at a rate faster than many other regions.

“Japan is the second largest storage market in the world while China’s economy is performing better than expected in the current business climate.”

Genereux said Darling had spent the past decade in Asia spearheading “highly successful sales strategies for some of the world’s leading storage companies—many of whom are QLogic OEM customers,” adding that Darling would “enable QLogic to expand existing relationships, successfully forge new ones and accelerate our growth in this important region.”

As well as DataDirect Networks, Darling also worked for Copan Systems, at EMC where he headed up the company’s Asia Pacific Dell business sales unit, and prior to that he was with Hitachi.
