ACS Foundation Runs Video Competition to Encourage Student Creativity and Passion for ICT E-mail
Tuesday, 23 June 2009
The ACS Foundation is running a competition for students around Australia to submit a two minute video around the 7 themes of this year’s National ICT Careers Week 2009 (27th July – 1st August 2009). To encourage responses, the ACS Foundation is providing 7 i-Pod Touches as prizes for the most popular ideas.

Submissions will be judged by the number of times a video has been viewed. Entries close on 1 August and winners will be announced on 15th August 2009 on the ACS Foundation website, by phone, and email.

To enter, students just need to log onto www.youtube.com/acsfoundation and upload their video, and then encourage all their friends and family to view it.

The seven themes are:

1. What Does ICT Mean to Me?

2. How can ICT Solve the World’s Problems?

3. How does ICT Build Connections with People?

4. How does ICT Spark Creativity?

5. How does ICT Improve our Daily Lives

6. How can ICT Give you the Lifestyle You Want?

7. How can ICT Give you a Global Career?

It is the ACS Foundation’s desire that this forum will nurture and unlock the next generation’s solutions to emerging issues and demonstrate their passion for technology.

Using social media, the ACS Foundation hopes these messages will reverberate around the globe, and provide a glimpse into the future.

As an example, seven recent graduates have created a short video on how they envisage information technology helping them to have a career that makes a difference. These seven videos have been collected and placed on the ACS Foundation’s You Tube Channel.

ICT is the Key to the Future

In the current economic environment, everyone is evaluating their career stability. Jobs enabled through information technology are increasingly seen as careers that are essential - even in the downtimes. In addition to the Global Financial Crisis, challenges such as climate change, global conflict, transport and healthcare are just some of the emerging issues which will impact the availability of sustainable and satisfying employment.

Skill sets that are adaptable and applicable to all industries and professions open up a variety of options for creative and innovative employment. Career mobility across industry sectors and national borders are more available to those who have applied ICT skills. Information technology is now the foundation for jobs of the future.
