A $4.6 million fibre cable link is being laid between the Brisbane CBD and that of the new town of Greater Springfield, and customers will be able to lease 'dark fibre' pairs on the network. The 79km network is being build by ASX listed Pipe Networks for the Springfield Land Corporation and is scheduled to be operational by February 2000. Springfield Land claims to have already signed its first customer for the network, the University of Southern Queensland which has signed a five year contract for its Greater Springfield campus and will be the first to access the network. Development is being facilitated by Strategic Directions. PIPE Networks, which operates its own fibre networks in Brisbane and other capital cities, has been commissioned to manage the building and maintenance of the network. Springfield Land Corporation (SLC) is the master developer of Greater Springfield, a new city in South East Queensland which includes the suburbs of Springfield Lakes, Augustine Heights and Springfield. The development will accommodate more than 60,000residents by the time it is fully developed. With Mirvac, SLC is also creating a learning centre, Education City, which welcomes its first students in Semester 1 2006. Greater Springfield. |
