NetIQ, an Attachmate business has appointed former Nortel engineer Allen Young as a senior consultant, based in Sydney. Reporting to Phillip Owens, Director of Technical Services, Asia Pacific, Young will leverage his VoIP management experience to perform dual roles in pre sales and customer implementations. Boris Ivancic, Regional Director, Asia Pacific, Attachmate, said Young’s appointment was driven by the growth of NetIQ’s business in the VoIP and Unified Communications space. “NetIQ is well known for its security solutions, however during the last 12 months we’ve been helping more enterprises manage their VoIP implementations. It will be a real asset to have Young on board, applying his past experience with a leading VoIP specialist to help our customers get the most out of their IP Telephony deployments.” After nearly eight years at Nortel, Young looks forward to taking on new challenges in his role with NetIQ. “I’ll be working across all of NetIQ’s offerings, with a particular focus on customers who are looking to fine tune their networks for VoIP. The landscape for converged voice and data has moved beyond the early adopters stage – businesses are now examining VoIP with more serious intentions. However, I continue to be surprised at how little businesses understand about the implications of VoIP on their networks, or how to test and guarantee Quality of Service. A large part of my role at NetIQ will be to show customers how they can properly prepare their networks and get the most out of a VoIP implementation. “I’ve been familiar and confident with NetIQ and its solutions for some time now, having worked with their network management offerings while I was at Nortel. When the opportunity arose to join the NetIQ team I was very keen to get on board.” Young is an IT veteran with 29 years of industry experience under his belt, including stints at Digital and Compaq. He joins NetIQ after a six-month contract with HP, where he managed Fairfax Digital’s network infrastructure. Prior to that, Young spent almost eight years in various roles at Nortel, most recently as a core sales engineer for the APAC region where he trained channel partners on Nortel and third party network management solutions.
