Want a lot of storage in a small space for your Mac? Western Digital's My Book Studio Edition II range now includes a 4T configuration.

Aimed at Mac users, WD's MyBook Studio Edition family has been around for some time. The latest model is, the company claims, the world's first 4T external drive for Mac users.

That's a bit of a stretch as the Mac-friendly fanless aluminium shell contains two drives, but we'll give WD the benefit of the doubt.

The two WD GreenPower drives use less power than conventional drives, and can be configured as a 4T RAID 0 for speed (eg for video editing or other tasks involving large chunks of data), or as RAID 1 for data protection at the cost of halving the capacity.

FireWire 400, 800, USB 2.0 and eSATA interfaces are provided. When used with FireWire or USB, the drive automatically powers up and down with the computer.

Automatic backup software is included in the package, or the drive can be used as a Time Machine destination.

The drive can be reformatted for use with Windows Vista.

The 4T My Book Studio Edition II costs $A999.
