Thin client vendor Wyse Technology and servers vendor Sun Microsystems, have formed an alliance to deliver end-to-end thin computing solutions.

Under the alliance, Sun and Wyse will jointly market solutions based on Wyse thin clients and Sun Secure Global Desktop Software (Sun SGDS).

As part of the collaboration, Sun and Wyse plan to work cooperatively on joint engineering projects, customer engagements, channel partner programs, and co-marketing initiatives.  Wyse plans to also bundle the Sun SGDS client software on its S- and V-Class thin clients across three operating system platforms, including Linux, WindowsCE and Windows XPe. The end-to-end solution, including Sun Fire X2100, Sun Fire X4100 and Sun Fire X4200 servers powered with AMD Opteron processors will be
available through Sun and Wyse joint channel partners.

John Kish, president and CEO, Wyse Technology said, "By combining market and engineering leadership from Wyse and Sun, customers will benefit from the seamless integration of best-of-breed technology that will ultimately deliver unmatched security, performance, reliability and manageability.

"Both companies are committed to driving more and more intelligence into the network and simplifying complexity at the edge.  Thin computing solutions leveraging Wyse solutions at the edge and Sun infrastructure, represent a very powerful solution for the market, helping customers to purchase and easily deploy integrated, end to end solutions."

John Loiacono, executive vice president of software at Sun Microsystems said, "With our Secure Global Desktop Software and Solaris 10, Sun is delivering the most advanced infrastructure on the planet for the secure delivery of applications to client devices in heterogeneous environments. Our agreement with Wyse, the global leader in thin computing, expands the
market for thin client solutions and reaffirms our assertion that 'The Network is the Computer.'"

Kim Stevenson, vice president of infrastructure portfolio, EDS said, "The collaboration of Sun and Wyse will expand the opportunities for thin client solutions in the enterprise market. Customers are increasingly looking to deploy thin computing solutions to simplify their operating environments. Sun and Wyse joining forces will improve the integration of thin computing solutions allowing EDS to strengthen our thin computing portfolio and provide our clients with a robust and secure desktop environment that delivers a superior end user experience."
