Electronic Arts has announced it has achieved the best PC launch of the company’s existence with The Sims 3 selling 1.4 million units in a week.

Okay, it is not up with the likes of World of Warcraft, or Grand Theft Auto IV first week sales, but still 1.4 million households are currently sitting/standing/dancing in the virtual world of The Sims 3.

Released on June 2nd, EA report that the PC/Mac version of the game has sold 1.4 million copies and that over 7 million pieces of content created by users have been downloaded.

In a similar vein, according to Electronic Arts, the US$10 iPhone/iPod Touch app from Apple’s App Store has hit the top spot in paid applications.

The Sims 3 is rocketing in sales, but still has some way to go to top the original release of The Sims which went on to sell over 100 million units worldwide.
