Chinese telecommunications giant, Huawei, has appointed a 17-year telecommunications industry veteran as chief financial officer for its Australian operations.

Brian Hoppe, a chartered accountant, has joined Huawei from Nortel where he was CFO for the company’s Asia Pacific business, previously working with Nortel in Canada, the United States, Australia, Japan and China.

Commenting on his appointment as CFO, Hoppe said it was an exciting time to be joining Huawei, with the Australian business experiencing 240 percent sales growth this year on the previous year.

“This is a fantastic result, especially during a period of economic uncertainty. Huawei will be looking to build on this success and continue to grow the company as a strong local entity over the next two to three years.”

Earlier this year, Huawei Australia appointed Peter Rossi to the position of chief technology officer after 20 years in the telecommunications industry working with Telstra, Lucent and Alcatel.

Rossi said Hoppe’s appointment reaffirmed Huawei’s commitment to growing its presence in the local marketplace, and his experience in the telecom industry would “serve Huawei well” as the company continued to build on, and develop, strong relationships with local industry.
