iPhone unlockers – don’t upgrade to 3.0 yet! E-mail

For unofficially unlocked iPhones, especially iPhone 3G models, unlocked using the iPhone Dev Team’s QuickPwn, PwnageTool and Yellowsn0w, and for iPod Touch 2nd-gen, Redsn0w, updating to OS 3.0 before the iPhone Dev Team has released an official unlock is a very bad idea.

The Dev Team explains that updating prematurely to iTunes 8.2 or iPhone OS 3.0 (when available) could prevent your iPhone from ever being unlocked again, or unlocked easily, with the iPhone 3G unlock having taken around 6 months to deliver.

The Dev Team also warns of malware sites preying on users looking for iPhone unlock information. These sites include quickpwn.com and yellowsn0w.net, and aside from delivering malware to unsuspecting users, they’re generating ad revenue for the unscrupulous owners – and are in no way connected to the iPhone Dev Team.

So, if you’re a regular, contract locked iPhone owner, upgrading to 3.0 immediately is something many will do the moment it’s available, but if your iPhone 2G or 3G is already unlocked, then wait!

The Dev Team makes will make an official announcement in short order, either detailing progress on either an immediate unlock, or work in progress on getting one out quickly.

Rush to update immediately, and you’ll likely regret it, so don’t say you weren’t warned – plenty of impatient types regretted their iPhone OS 2.0 updates before time, some reverting back to 1.1.4 for a while until iPhone OS 2.0.1 and even 2.0.2 were available.

Cracking the iPhone 3G’s new hardware took around six months, but iPhone 2G owners got a much quicker unlock when iPhone OS 2.0 was released, so hopefully it is the same story with the existing iPhone 2G and 3G this time around with iPhone 3G.

But those wanting to unlock the new iPhone 3.0 2009 phone are likely in for a much longer wait, as the Apple mothership sends in a better cat to chase out the Dev Team’s latest mouse, but with the Dev Team on the case, getting to the cheese of an iPhone OS 3.0 unlock and jailbreak is an irresistible “cat and mouse” challenge with an inevitable outcome…

An even better cat in a future iPhone OS 4.0 - and an even better mouse!
