SMS Management & Technology has scored a 12-month contract, with a possible two year extension, with the water division of the Bureau of Meteorology to assist in the management and delivery of a water resources information system (AWRIS).

SMS’s appointment as an industry partner to the bureau, involves a contract worth about $2.5 million and a team of 15 SMS consultants working alongside, and fully integrated with, the bureau’s water division team for phase one of the project.

SMS CEO, Tom Stianos claimed that, counter to the recent downward trend experienced by the Australian IT sector, SMS had signalled “revitalised optimism in the local market,” and, he indicated, the company had recommended targeted recruitment in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.

"In particular we are experiencing demand for business and technology project managers, specifically those with experience in deploying or managing technology projects. .NET and Java Developers are also in demand, as are professionals with PMO expertise,” Stianos added.

According to Stianos, the primary objective of AWRIS is to deliver a “market leading solution” to the national water industry and the Australian public to “efficiently collect, analyse and publish the nation’s water related information.”

Stianos said that SMS would perform critical project management, project management office and a range of technical specialist services in support of the AWRIS phase one development and implementation which was due to deliver its first outputs in December this year.

“SMS is delighted to have been selected by the Bureau of Meteorology as its information technology partner. SMS has been a long-time partner to the Australian Government at all levels and this appointment further demonstrates that SMS is a proven and trusted partner, respected for its ability to deliver quality outcomes.”
