At the time, Jim Wong, president of Acer's IT Products Global Operation, said, "The Android operating system offers incredibly fast wireless connection to the Internet; for this reason, Acer has decided to develop Android netbooks for added convenience to our customers." Today, according to DigiTimes , Acer chairman JT Wang said the netbooks will actually be dual-boot systems, shipping with Windows as well. The dual-boot strategy represents a safety strategy for Acer, since according to Wang, it's unclear how enthusiastically consumers will embrace the Android platform. That means the netbooks will most likely be priced higher than they could be if they ran only the open-source Android OS. Acer will market the netbooks in conjunction with telecom providers, and Wang said that if demand was high enough, Acer would consider shipping Android-only models as well. |
