Lisa Hagenmaier, group syndication manager, Fairfax Media, said: "Fairfax Media are proud to be the first Australian newspaper publisher to launch on Google News Archive. The partnership allows for our archived content to be digitised and made searchable - for free. “Google News Archive will help people more easily experience and appreciate The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age - as they covered Australian history first-hand. It means it is now easier than ever to view our newspapers as they were first printed, with original headlines and images." Google Maps also gets a public transport info update coming in June. Sydney’s Light Rail and Monorail networks will get timetable information via Google Maps, and Canberra’s Action Buses network gets the same, with Google noting that Sydney and Canberra Google Maps users “will be able to easily access public transport schedules, routes, and plan trips using local public transport options.” Michelle Silberman, marketing director for Metro Transport, said: "We're thrilled to be the first transit provider in New South Wales to have our data added to Google Maps, making it easier for Australians and visitors alike to check out the great sights and activities Sydney has to offer." No doubt we'll be hearing a lot more from "our very own" Down Under Googleplex pretty soon! |
