This is because the details of the iPhone OS 3.0 (software) are largely known, although Apple’s WWDC due in 7 days will undoubtedly reveal some additional software surprises – and hopefully some hardware surprises, too. That said, no-one yet knows whether the new iPhone 3.0 devices will appear at the WWDC or not, especially given the fact Apple’s recent WWDC announcement indicated that Steve wouldn’t be giving the keynote presentation. Rumours suggest Apple will introduce the iPhone 3.0 hardware a few weeks after the WWDC event, thus giving a little bit of time to existing iPhone 2G and 3G owners to enjoy the iPhone OS 3.0, before being hit by the actual “new iPhone 3.0” onslaught. Already a series of photos has emerged, purporting to show the new iPhone with some form of compass hardware (as per the Google G1 gPhone) and a compass app, along with an autofocus camera, and other features – although as per usual, the shots are of the Mr Blurry variety. Excitement is high that the new iPhone 3.0 hardware will shock and awe as much as it did when the original iPhone was launched, but it still seems to be missing key features such as video calling capabilities, removable storage, removable battery, no 5 megapixel or better camera, no flash, and still no haptic feedback (along with the ability to turn it off for those that wouldn’t want such a feature). There also looks to be disappointment on the 64GB front, with rumours only pointing to a mere 32GB of storage, something that is now very old news thanks to the iPod Touch and previously announced Nokia N97 offering the same. But it would appear that the iPhone 3.0 will get “double the ram and processing power”, which could make true multitasking a reality!
