5 Best Practices for Smartphone Support
- 32GB and 16GB to replace current capacities - $199 and $299 price-points to be maintained - 3.2 Megapixel camera - Video recording & editing capabilities - Ability to send a picture & video via MMS - Discontinuation of the metal band surrounding the edge of the device - OLED screen (lowers battery usage) - 1.5 times the battery life - Double the RAM and processing power - Built-in FM transmitter - Apple logo on the back to light up - Rubber-tread backing - Sleeker design - Built-in compass - Revolutionary combination of the camera, GPS, compass, and Google maps to identify photo and inform about photo locations - Turn by turn directions - July 17th, 2009 release date There's no mention of the rumour here that Apple will be releasing an iPhone 3.0 that can take advantage of 7.2Mbps-class 3.5G networks, so we'll have to wait and see on that one. “Turn by turn” directions is something that the AppAdvice people questioned, but given that it was announced at the iPhone OS 3.0 pre-launch from a couple of months ago, with nav companies able to sell their own software and their own maps to deliver true turn-by-turn, it makes me wonder just how on the money these AppAdvice people really are. Many of the specs seem real enough, although why Apple would waste precious battery life on making the Apple logo shine on the back, while attracting the attention of muggers, is questionable. An OLED screen would be awesome thanks to its richer colours, but they’re still supposed to be very expensive. Microsoft, however, has included one in its upcoming Zune HD, so the tech must be more affordable than it was before. This so-called “revolutionary” combo of camera, GPS, compass and Google Maps sounds like something any other GPS-enabled camera phone can do, adding to the “doubt” factor, as does an FM transmitter that Apple has never deemed worthy of including before. So… there you have it. The web’s collective bet on what the iPhone 3.0 hardware will contain. Until new rumours emerge tomorrow, or the next day, or the day after that – right up until Apple actually reveals… the truth! |
