Vodafone brings Visual Voicemail to Australian iPhone 3Gs at last E-mail

Edward Goff, the General Manger of Consumer Markets at Vodafone Australia, was very excited by the launch.

He noted that “Vodafone is thrilled to be on the front-foot of innovation, launching this Australian-first application to Vodafone iPhone 3G customers.

“Our iPhone 3G customers will no longer have to trawl through all their voicemails to get to the ones they want to hear. It’s convenience at your fingertips.”

To actually get Visual Voicemail onto your Voda iPhone 3G, you’ll need to “install or update to the latest iTunes software on their handsets as soon as possible in order to access Vodafone’s Visual Voicemail application for the iPhone 3G when it becomes available to them.”

Vodafone calls the development “revolutionary”, although as I noted on the previous page, I’m not exactly sure how revolutionary it is when AT&T customers have enjoyed this since June 29, 2007.

It’s also not that revolutionary when I can download (admittedly at a paid price) a “voice inbox” program for (virtually) any modern N or E-Series Nokia through the Ovi store, something that turns your phone into its own answering machine and cuts out the telco from the loop altogether! It wasn't the only one either - go and check out the Ovi store for yourself and you'll see what I mean.

Still… companies do like to be triumphant about new developments, so it’s all to be expected, and gives me fabulous ammo to write my stories with, which is always a lot of fun. At least for me, hopefully there’s some fun in it for you, too.

If you want to know more, whether you’re a Vodafone customer or not, then pop on over to Vodafone’s Visual Voicemail page. Whether you’re drinking a V (or a VB) while you do it is up to you, but then, Red Bull does give you wiiings.
