The Tasmanian Government, under new legislation, has established three regional water and sewerage corporations to manage and operate the state’s water and sewerage assets, and Onstream was established in January this year as the common services provider for the three new regional corporations. PKBA CEO, Mark Stead, says the company has been awarded an extensive IT infrastructure, applications and services contract with Onstream to provide “vital integration of infrastructure and virtual environments for Tasmania’s forthcoming water and sewerage industry amalgamations.” Stead says that, as a shared services provider, Onstream would support the information and communications technology (ICT) of the three regional water and sewerage corporations that supply 40,000 million litres of water for use in homes and businesses throughout Tasmania. “Supporting five server rooms across Tasmania, Onstream required a single vendor solution to deploy and implement core applications and maintain and manage critical infrastructure and systems.” According to Stead, in the current economic climate, PKBA sees opportunities to work with business and government organisations to consolidate operations to increase efficiency and reduce costs.
