Three and Vodafone have both today announced plans to launch HTC's second Android phone, the HTC Magic, in Australia. The white version, however will be exclusive to Vodafone, but it will also sell the black model.

Both operators are trying garner publicity and whip up early interest by offering pre-launch interest registration web pages (www.vodafone.com.au/htcmagic and www.three.com.au/magic).

Vodafone is claiming a number of exclusive features, including Google branding and "Firmware Over-the-Air software which automatically updates handsets with the latest Android software, ensuring our customers always enjoy the best possible user experience.”

According to Anthony Petts, sales and marketing director ANZ for HTC "Our collaboration with Vodafone Australia and Google will enable users to experience a superior mobile Internet experience, providing broad flexibility for personalisation through the application-rich Android Market.”

Neither has given any details of launch date, pricing or packaging. Vodafone says it  will confirm these details in the near future.

The Magic is HTC's second Android phone, after the Dream, sold by Optus in Australia. At least in some markets where Vodafone operates, the Magic is exclusive to Vodafone. Vodafone announced the partnership with HTC in February.

The Magic is a tablet-style touch screen model that includes six hard buttons for navigation, volume control, a call/hang up key, home button, menu button, and quick 'search' key to make using the phone's menus or searching the Internet even quicker.

The main difference between it and the Dream, which is also largely touch operated, appears to be the lack of a hard qwerty keyboard, which makes the Magic slimmer and lighter than the Dream. The Magic uses a touch screen qwerty keyboard.
