Theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking was admitted to a London, England hospital on Monday, April 20, 2009, after feeling very sick. The world-famous scientist is confirmed as being "comfortable" but will be spending the night in the hospital.

According to Gregory Hayman, a spokesperson for Cambridge University, “Professor Hawking is very ill and has been taken by ambulance to Addenbrooke's Hospital. He is undergoing tests. He has been unwell for a couple of weeks."

Dr. S.W. Hawking, a popularly known mathematician and physicist, has been extremely sick with a chest infection.

Addenbrooke Hospital is a large teaching hospital that is linked with Cambridge University

Dr. Hawking is a Cambridge University professor within its Department of Applied mathematics and Theoretical Physics (DAMTP). Since 1979, Hawking has been the Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at the University of Cambridge.

Addenbrooke Hospital, after analyzing Hawking’s condition, stated via a spokesperson that he is in a "comfortable" condition, but will spend the night resting withn the hospital.

The hospital states that the next announcement concerning his condition would not be forthcoming until Tuesday morning, April 21.
