3 has made good on its promise to provide its customers with 3G roaming onto the Telstra Next G network.

Last August, 3 announced it would improve 3G coverage for its customers through an agreement with Telstra to use the Next G network.

The mobile carrier said it would also extend its own coverage to include some areas that generate high levels of roaming traffic.

The main problem with roaming to Next G is that 3 customers will need a handset that works on 850MHz as well as the 2100MHz frequency used by 3.

Compatible phones include various Nokia models (including the E63, N85 and some E71s), the BlackBerry Bold, and the Sony Ericsson C510 and W705.

According to 3, some customers may be eligible for upgrades to new handsets either on their existing plans or by choosing a new Cap plan.

The Internet Key Modem E160 also works with the new roaming arrangements.

Roaming in certain areas will remain with Telstra's GSM network - see page two.
