Data loss a growing concern says CSC E-mail

Responding to what it says is growing market concern over the potential for data loss, CSC, a global provider of technology-enabled solutions and services, has launched a data loss prevention (DLP) service in collaboration with Symantec, to identify, monitor and proactively protect confidential data.

CSC says that in today’s unstable economic climate, it is imperative that enterprise organisations understand the value of their information assets and manage them appropriately as data loss can seriously threaten customer confidence, brand integrity and bottom line.

The company says its solution is an integrated part of its Protected Enterprise portfolio of
security solutions that reduces the risk of data loss and supports compliance mandates to monitor and ensure data security.

According to CSC, recent findings by leading industry research firms indicate that data loss is a rapidly growing concern for the market. It says the Identity Theft Resource Center announced in January this year a 47 percent increase in security breaches from 2007 to 2008, with “data on the move” and “accidental exposure,” both of which are addressed by a DLP solution, accounting for 35 percent of the breaches with an identifiable cause.

In addition, says CSC, the InfoPro’s “Information Security Wave 10 – Industry Profile Report,” issued in December last year, showed that FORTUNE 1000 companies were indicating DLP as a top information security pain point and a top initiative for 2009.

David Dzienciol, senior director, enterprise sales and channels, for Symantec Australia and New Zealand says CSC is one of the first partners enabled to deliver consulting and services for the Symantec DLP solution in Australia.

Dzienciol said that more than ever, Australian organisations were placing an increased focus on data loss and Symantec together with CSC offered customers comprehensive solutions and services that discover, monitor and protect confidential information wherever it is stored or used.
