Enhancements to XenApp 5 - available from March 16 - provide some new features and makes others available regardless of the edition selected. XenServer (Citrix's server virtualisation product) is now included with all editions, as is the local application virtualisation feature that allows an application to be streamed to a PC or notebook where it runs locally even if the network connection is broken. XenApp has been made easier to manage with the ability to maintain a single XenApp server image that can be quickly and dynamically provisioned to hundreds of servers. User profile management has also been improved, allowing the use of a consolidated profile across multiple devices, speeding log-on and ensuring user preferences are always respected. Furthermore, the Enterprise and Platinum editions now include a management toolset that the company says will eliminate the need for third-party benchmarking software. The new release is provided at no extra cost to Subscription Advantage customers as at March 9, and to purchasers of new licences on or after March 16. "Citrix understands the challenges that our customers face today with shrinking budgets and the pressures of 'doing more with less,' and we are committed to helping businesses meet these challenges using proven technology that impacts the bottom line," said Mick Hollison, vice president of XenApp product marketing at Citrix Systems. "As a core component of the Citrix Delivery Center product family, XenApp is now even more valuable in helping organizations manage and deliver applications using fewer resources by adding hundreds of dollars in value on top of what they already get with XenApp for no additional cost," he added. |
