Would you rather work hard for promotion or go for a quicker, if slightly sweatier, route to success? Most people, you would like to imagine, have an understanding of the work ethic and as a result are prepared to work hard in order to get on in life. The survey of more than 1000 workers revealed that a further 26 percent would kiss the boss for an automatic promotion, and 17 percent would consider puckering up if the money was right. 18 percent came right out with it and said they would drop their drawers and get down and dirty rather than hang around waiting to be noticed. The good news is that the survey did show that 39 percent of Brits were prepared to work hard and graft their way up the promotion ladder with long hours and dedication, if with no guarantee of a promotion or pay rise at the end of it. Lisette Howlett, Managing Director of the HireScores agency says that for some people working their way up the career ladder can seem something of a daunting task. She also says that "impressing your manager can come naturally" which is perhaps a little unfortunate considering the context. Considering that the average workplace is already buried deep in sex, gambling, IM and adverts it is surprising that any real work gets done at all. |
