Isilon Systems Australia, a provider of in scale-out NAS, says its local operation is increasing staff despite the slowing economic conditions, and the latest appointment to a newly created position is Peter Gjersoe as general manager, strategic accounts.

Michael Burnie, Isilon's vice president and general manager for Asia Pacific – said headcount was increasing within the Australian operation despite the economic conditions and the company was “addressing the opportunities presented by the now staggering growth in unstructured data and digital content.”

According to Burnie, the growth was not only manifest in organisations where digital content has historically constituted the majority of their stored information but also for conventional businesses including financial institutions.  “Effectively managing this increase – in what is invariably very valuable data – has become a huge challenge."

Burnie said Peter Gjersoe was another storage veteran and former colleague from their time together employed at StorageTek, EMC and NetApp.
