Perhaps the most broadly useful announcement was My Phone. This free service will provide online synchronisation and backup of phone data including contacts, appointments and text messages. Not only does this secure access to the data in the event that a phone is lost or stolen, it also makes it easy to switch to a new handset - as long as it too is based on Windows Mobile. Users will also be able to upload photos and video from the phone to My Phone. My Phone is currently undergoing invitation-only beta testing. Windows Marketplace for Mobile is Microsoft's answer to Apple's App Store. It might lack a catchy name, but it will allow the selection and purchase of mobile applications on either a PC or a Windows Mobile handset.
