The January 22, 2009 Forbes article “America's Most Wired Cities,” by Elizabeth Woyke, lists Seattle, Washington number one overall as the Most Wired City in the United States. Seattle is listed as number ten (#10) in Broadband Adoption, number two (#2) as Access Options, and number one (#1) as Wi-fi Hot Spots. Atlanta was #2 in the 2008, but garnered the top spot in 2009 primarily due to its increased use of broadband with its dramatic increase in broadband access and Wi-fi hot spots. The Forbes article states, “Since 2007, Forbes has measured cities' wired quotient by computing the percentage of Internet users with high-speed connections and the number of companies providing high-speed Internet. Since many urban residents access the Internet by wi-fi, we also measure the number of public wireless Internet hot spots in a particular city.” Please visit “In Pictures: Top 30 Most-Wired American Cities” to view the top thirty wired cities in the United States, according to Forbes. With Seattle, Washington, and Atlanta, Georgia, in the top two spots, respectively, Washington, D.C. is position in third-place, while Orlando, Florida, is in fourth-place and Boston, Massachusetts is in fifth-place.
