3Com Australia has been awarded an extension of its multi-million dollar contract with the Queensland Department of Education, Training and the Arts to continue to provide network infrastructure solutions to support DETA's ongoing initiative to modernise its educational environment.

3Com announced the DETA contract extension for five years, plus an option for three one-year extensions, and the networking provider says the multi-million dollar contract is the largest deal on record for the company in Asia Pacific outside of China. Under the deal, 3Com will supply all of the current and future technology products in 3Com's portfolio, including many of its advanced solutions like its enterprise-grade multi-service routers (MSRs), unified communications platform and IP video solutions.

According to Peter Chai, Vice President and General Manager for 3Com Asia Pacific, students and teachers in Queensland will benefit from unified communications, multimedia learning, and high-speed wireless access from anywhere on campus.

Mr Chai said DETA's converged network solution would be supported by 3Com's enterprise network, wireless and security management software, as well as professional and maintenance service, and the company would  work with local Australian partners to roll out these solutions over the duration of the new contract.
