Games developer Big Ant Studios revealed last year that it would establish a new office in Queensland. Its plans have now been clarified with the announcement of a development studio at the University of the Sunshine Coast's Innovation Centre.

Founded in 2001, Big Ant has created games for the PlayStation family, Wii, Xbox 360 and PCs.

Published by THQ, Konami and Sierra Entertainment, all of the company's console titles have sold hundreds of thousand units.

Examples include Hellboy: The Science of Evil (PSP), Spyro: The Eternal Night (PS2) and Spyro: A New Beginning (GBA).

Late last year the company announced the development of a licensed AFL game. It currently focuses on the PS3, PSP, Wiii and Xbox 360.

Big Ant's head office is in the heart of Melbourne's central business district,

CEO and founder Ross Symons said the company had chosen the Innovation Centre for its new studio because it was in a region with an established gaming industry sector, it has a strong student population, and is in a location that would be attractive to potential staff.

(All of which could be said about Melbourne, of course.)

What might Big Ant be able to do for its new landlord? See page 2.
