Wednesday, 20 October 2004

The Australian Communications Authority has moved to introduce a regulatory framework for the VoIP telephony market and is taking submissions from stakeholders. The submissions will be taken until the close of 2004.

Issues to be explored are covered in a discussion paper released yesterday titled Regulatory Issues with the Provision of Voice Services Using Internet Protocol in Australia. Some of the issues include numbering, emergency call services, consumer safeguards and access for people with a disability.

The discussion paper is available on the ACA website.
