The latest is a “concept photo” from Macrumors which seems to be a French iPhone 3G, shrunken in size using Photoshop, from a front, side and back angle, and presented to the world as a possible iPhone nano. Of course, Macrumors aren’t convinced, and few, if any, of the 350+ commenters at its site are either. The rumors all came about because a Chinese case manufacturer says they’re making cases for the supposed new iPhone nano, and this has set off a raging round of rumour-mongering. Cries of “but they’ll need to re-design the interface” and “how will anyone use the existing apps on a smaller screen” have emanated from far and wide, and naturally, they are very interesting questions. Some already claim the keyboard is too small, and unless Apple makes more extensive use of the keyboard in “landscape” mode, people with fat fingers might have to forego any iPhone nano, should it turn out to be real, and go with the bigger model instead. There are also claims that this is the rumoured $99 iPhone, which supposedly will only come with a 2G chipset, a claim that itself sounds weird when there are plenty of small 3G phones out there today. But smaller usually means more expensive, and when was the last time that Apple really made a bigger version of its products, unless it’s a bigger LCD Cinema display? There were even wags at the Macrumors forum saying that even Steve Jobs has become much slimmer of late, following the trend he sets with his products, but that was just someone being mean.
