Palin beats Obama in Google search popularity contest E-mail

Yes, hands up, it is a fair cop: it has been a whirlwind year of election news and economic woes in the US and this is reflected in the Google search top tens. The fastest rising list being perhaps the most telling.

This list covers the most popular searches for 2008 which is then ranked based upon how much their frequency increased compared to 2007. No prizes for guessing that Obama was way out in front for 2008.

The full fastest rising list is as follow:

obama
facebook
att
iphone
youtube
fox news
palin
beijing 2008
david cook
surf the channel

Obama, however, did not top the fastest rising searches for Google News. Interestingly, that honour goes to his rival - no not John McCain -  Sarah Palin. In terms of news searches, Obama was beaten by American Idol, McCain, Olympics and Hurricane Ike.

Obama also lost out on image searches, with Sarah Palin once again taking the top spot. Obama did come a close second though, followed by twilight and Miley Cyrus with the Joker bringing up the year.

Twilight could only take second spot in the fastest rising book searches for the US though, falling behind Breaking Dawn. In third place was Lora Leigh followed by Vampire Kisses and New Moon.
