Ever wondered if other people are searching for the same stuff as you? Of course you have, which is why everyone loves it when Google reveals who has been searching for what and where during 2008. Let's go around the world in 80 searches.

It has been a busy year for Google, what with introducing and then closing an interactive world of 3D avatars , building Wiki into searches and even reconstructing Ancient Rome.

Of course, we have to mention all the effort to launch the Google Android phone as well as an own-brand web browser client in Chrome.

However, while Google has been busy with all this, Googlers have been busy doing what they do best. Googling. Now, as we approach the year end, it is possible to take a journey around the world in 80 Googles to see exactly what people have been looking for.

You can get a daily glimpse of what is hot on Google by visiting Google Trends which today, for example, reveals that in the USA people are mostly searching for eclampsia and blagojevich.

Today, though, sees Google release details of the entire year summed up in terms of the big events, memorable moments and emerging trends that captivated us throughout 2008.

The fastest rising searches on a global basis for the year were:

sarah palin
beijing 2008
facebook login
tuenti
heath ledger
obama
nasza klasa
wer kennt wen
euro 2008
jonas brothers

Want to know what was happening in Australia in terms of searches, then head to page 2 where we can reveal the fastest rising and most popular searches, top movie searches and even the top crisis searches.
