Internode says it has “started offering its customers unmetered access to ABC iView through a collaborative effort with the ABC.

”This effort has seen the resolution of previous technical challenges that prevented Internode from providing high performance, nationally available unmetered access to iView.”

Ian Carroll, Director of Innovation at the ABC, welcomed Internode’s move, saying: “The ABC experience of iView has been that ISP customers can't wait to use a TV service like iView if they do not have to worry about metered usage.

“We also see this in the UK where the BBC's iPlayer has had a major impact on television viewing habits. Most UK ISP's and telcos offer iPlayer viewing unmetered.

“Here in Australia, the statistics are equally compelling: ISP's who offer iView unmetered have a six times greater share of iView usage.

“International experience suggests unmetered viewing will become widespread in Australia. The ABC welcomes those ISP's who want to lead the way for their customers.”

Internode managing director Simon Hackett said access to ABC iView was Internode’s Christmas gift to its customers.

“ABC iView is a quick and convenient way to catch up if you’ve missed an ABC program. Internode is pleased to provide this service to its customers, with no impact on their download quotas, now that the ABC has made it technically possible for us to do so,” concluded Hackett.
