Telecoms service provider Linkwell International has added a free mobile to Skype calling service to its 28TEL mobile communications service brand. The Hong Kong based telco claims its 'Mobile 2 Skype' service, which allows 28TEL users to call online Skype users directly through their mobile phones, is the first service of its type to be launched worldwide.

According to Linkwell, Mobile 2 Skype is suitable for all types of mobile phones worldwide and all carrier networks and requires no hardware or software downloads and installation. At present 28TEL users can have access to the service for free.

The user logs in to their personal 28TEL account and adds a Skype contact to their contacts list, which then gets assigned a local number. If the contact is online, the user can dial the mapped local telephone number with their mobile phone and gets charged the local rate from their mobile service provider.

At this time, the 28TEL service, which is in beta, is free and only available to users in North America, Brazil and selected Asian countries, including China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Korea and the Philippines.
