5 Best Practices for Smartphone Support
“Digital switchover is important for all Australians as it not only provides access to better picture and sound quality, and additional channels, but it will also free-up spectrum which can be used for the delivery of new and improved broadcasting and communications services”, concluded the Minister. The only question now is whether the Minister is planning on using that analog spectrum for future high-speed wireless Internet services, given that ability for signals in that spectrum to successfully penetrate into buildings. Plans to use old analog TV spectrum in this way are underfoot in the US, although any such moves will compete against existing 3.5G, EVDO and upcoming LTE rollouts in the future. Still, the entire switch off is 5 years away, and in that time anything could happen, including a further switch-off delay, notwithstanding today’s announcement, given the ability for new Governments to be voted in and decisions changed. One week is a long time in politics, 5 years is an eternity. Even so, it’s good to see the decision finally made, and the spectrum hopefully then opened up for something else. |
